Working as a shooting crew and video editor for Kayhan Kalhor was an unforgettable experience. In Hafdang, we produced and directed five live sessions with Kayhan Kalhor.
Kayhan Kalhor is an internationally acclaimed virtuoso on the kamancheh (spiked fiddle), who through his many musical collaborations has been instrumental in popularizing Persian around the world and is a creative force in today’s music scene.
Kalhor has composed works for Iran’s most renowned vocalists Mohammad Reza Shajarian and Shahram Nazeri and has also performed and recorded with Iran’s greatest instrumentalists.
He has been nominated for three Grammys in 2017 and was awarded a Grammy with Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble (2017).
I directed and edited the video below, recorded at Iran Music Museum in 2021 during the pandemic era. I was also one of the cameramen.
Kalhor, and his old tombak player friend, Navid Afghah, play a one-hour improvisational Persian music in Shoushtari Mode.
"Silent City" is probably the most famous album of Kalhor. He performed it twice with a string quartet in 2020, in Tehran and Esfahan.
I edited both.
This is actually the first collaboration of Hafdang & Kayhan Kalhor: A star solo performance in the beautiful hallway of the Glassware and Ceramic Museum of Iran.
Recorded in the spring of 2020, I did the editing and color grading for this video.
And the last one: Kayhan Kalhor and Erdal Erzincan duet!
Kalhor and Erzincan have earlier mesmerized Eastern music enthusiasts during many duets in many cities around the world. They decided to perform an online concert in the summer of 2021.
Recorded at Tehran Vahdat Hall, I did the editing and color grading for this video.
The video below, is a part of the concert, a Kurdish song called "The snow on the mountains won't melt this year".
